Are the documents strong enough evidence?
And how will that powerful family react when the truth comes out?
On the way back from the mill, no one talks much.
The metal box full of documents sits in Elif's lap in the back seat.
She holds it tightly, as if it might disappear if she let go.
When they arrive at the library, Münir sits at the table and begins sorting through the documents carefully.
We have to do this the right way, he says.
If we act too quickly, we could lose everything.
Ahmet Bey agrees.
Going straight to a newspaper could be risky.
We need someone reliable first.
What do you mean?
Büşra asks.
Someone who can examine the documents and confirm they are authentic, Münir says.
Someone with legal knowledge.
Or a journalist I used to know, if he is still in the city.
Nil takes out her phone.
I will look into it, she says.
Give me a name, and I will find him.
Münir thinks for a moment, then gives her a name.
It is an old colleague he worked with many years ago.
If you can find him, he says, he might be able to help us.
Lena looks out the window, her expression thoughtful.
So how long before the family notices us?
Silence follows.
Probably not very long, Ahmet Bey says honestly.
But that should not stop us.
We are doing the right thing.
Elif takes her father's hand.
We waited forty years, she says.
We can be more careful, but we cannot give up.
Nail looks through the documents again.
Photographs, dates, signatures.
These are strong pieces of evidence, he says.
But they might not be enough on their own.
We may need more witnesses.
Maybe there are others, Büşra says slowly.
Other people who were affected by this, forty years ago.
Everyone exchanges glances.
A new idea is forming.
Nil opens her laptop and begins searching through old newspaper archives.
If there were other reports about this back then, she says, I can find them.
Minutes pass.
Finally, Nil's eyes light up.
Found it, she says.
Several other families in the same area lost their homes around that time.
They might still be living in the city.
Hope appears on Münir's face.
Then, he says, we need to talk to them.
Are any of those families still living in the city?
And how will they react when they hear the truth?
