The old man invites them to the old table.
His hands were still trembling slightly as he pulled out a chair, helping Elif sit down.
There's a lot to explain, he says, his voice tired but clear.
The night he disappeared, he was actually running.
He had discovered that one of the most powerful families in the city was tearing down historic buildings and secretly selling the land.
While he was gathering the documents, he was noticed, and men were sent after him.
I went to the library that night, he explains, to leave the documents with Ahmet Bey's grandfather.
I rang the bell, but I didn't have time to go inside.
They were following me.
Ahmet Bey leans forward.
Did my grandfather see you?
Only for a moment.
I shouted hide it at him, then I ran.
He pauses.
After that night, I could never go back anywhere.
I was being watched.
So why did you never come forward?
Nail asks.
As the years passed...
Because that family was still the most powerful one in the city, the old man says.
Without the documents, no one would have believed me.
I would have just been a missing journalist, or worse.
Elif's eyes brighten.
But we have the documents now.
The old man looks at her, and for the first time, a small trace of hope appears on his face.
Yes, he says slowly.
We have them now.
Nil takes out her phone and begins taking notes.
What was this family's name?
The old man says a name, one still known, still respected in the city.
The room falls silent.
As everyone considers what this means, outside, the wind was gently rattling the broken beams on the mill's roof.
Proving this won't be easy, Ahmet Bey says slowly.
No, the old man agrees.
But I'm not alone anymore.
Elif takes her father's hand.
Neither am I, she says.
Büşra looks at the photo on her phone, the mysterious light where everything began.
Now she understands.
That light wasn't a threat.
It was a call.
So what do we do now?
Lena asks.
The old man gathers the old files on the table.
Now, he says, we tell the truth.
To everyone.
