And who rang that doorbell on the night he disappeared?
The team returns to the library, but this time they look at everything with different eyes.
Ahmet Bey stops the moment he sees them, the keys hanging in his hand.
Something in his face has changed, as if he can no longer carry something he's been carrying for a very long time.
Sit down, he says quietly.
There's something I need to tell you.
Everyone takes a seat at the table.
Ahmet Bey says nothing for a while, staring only at his hands.
My grandfather, he begins, was a friend of that journalist.
A close friend.
The room stays completely still.
Before the journalist disappeared, he continues, he left something here, in the library.
Behind the oldest shelf, somewhere no one would think to look.
Did your grandfather know?
Lena asks.
Ahmet Bey nods.
He did.
He told me when I was young.
But he never dared to open it.
Neither did I.
For years.
Why not?
Büşra asks.
Because once you open it, Ahmet Bey says slowly, not knowing is no longer an option.
No one answers that.
Together, they walk to the oldest shelf, dusty, forgotten, tucked into the farthest corner of the library.
Ahmet Bey pushes the shelf, sliding it slightly to one side.
Behind it, a small hollow space appears, built into the wall.
Inside is a metal box, rusted but sturdy.
Nail carefully lifts it out and sets it on the table.
The lid creaks open.
Inside are documents, yellowed papers, old photographs, handwritten notes.
They tell the story of the city's forgotten history.
Neighborhoods torn down, buildings erased from official records, people who simply vanished.
At the very bottom lies a folded letter.
Written on it is a single word.
To whoever finds this.
Büşra opens the letter carefully.
The handwriting is shaky but still legible.
She begins reading aloud.
Everyone holds their breath.
The letter describes what happened the night the journalist disappeared.
Who was after him, why he had to run, where he had planned to go.
When she reaches the final sentence, Büşra stops.
Her voice trembles.
Written in the letter is a name, one that everyone in the room recognizes, but none of them ever expected.
Who is this person?
And had the journalist really disappeared, or had he simply been hiding all along?
